luxembourg

There is something about traveling by train. A type of nostalgia that I imagine is linked to the idea of the Orient Express. Yesterday I took the train from Amsterdam to Luxembourg. It is no Orient Express, but it took me from A to B (semi) rapidly. Naturally I did not look as elegant as the ladies on the Orient Express posters (no bellboy or LV suitcases here), but I do love the endless views of the countryside, the speed and the distinctive sounds of the train stations. Tonight it is back to Amsterdam.

The countryside, on the way to Luxembourg, is green an inspiring. The fields extend for miles and the farmhouses decorate the view with their rounded roofs. It is autumn. The colors of the leaves are in transformation. Somewhere between green, orange and brown.

“Every year go somewhere you have never been”.  I don’t remember you said this – but it is an idea I like to adhere to. So after Aruba, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, New York, Hamburg and Amsterdam, I am finally somewhere I have never been before.

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a tiny country set between Belgium, France and Germany. It is green and lush and the rocky cliffs run high up. It has picturesque canals, grey stoned buildings and a Laduree, a wonderful and delicious surprise I spotted yesterday.

Though French is the official language, many people speak English very well. As you can imagine, I love all the "merci's" and "bonjour's" - paired with the Laduree - I almost feel in Paris.
