shadows

In Tokyo there was one shop I wanted to visit; a book store, of course. T-Site Tsutaya, in Daikanyama, Tokyo is my heaven-on-earth. A wonderous sanctuary to lose myself in. A world within worlds. A marvel to be explored but never truly discovered. It is here, in a tiny section of the shop where one may find an English book or two, that I found “In praise of shadows”, by Junichiro Tanizaki. A piece of literature that is unquestionably art. I have, indulgently,  read it numerous times already. Returning for its beautiful prose, its exploration of shadows and it’s devotion to the Japanese culture.
